My boxing future

My plan is to box until I am 21 then get involved in the buisness of boxing. I am currently a contributing writer to eastsideboxing.com and mightygloves.com. I would love to become involved in journalism bridging two of my passions writing and boxing. Another road I have considered is promotion. There is plenty of money to be made in boxing promotions, but at the same time is a risky buisness to get involved with. Boxing can be a corrupt sport and I would love to get involved and play my hand in fixing that. My eventual dream is to open a gym of my own.

favorite boxers

Part of me getting involved in boxing is my love for watching boxing. My Dad is a huge boxing fan so I started watching boxing when I was very little. I grew up watching boxing matches on T.V. My favorite boxers are Floyd Mayweather, Shane Mosley, David Haye, Kelly Pavlik, and Joe Calzaghe. I also enjoy watching classic boxing matches, sometimes even more so than present day fights. My favorite all time fighters are Muhammad Ali, and Sugar Ray Leonard. I think that a big boxing match is the most exciting event in sports, because of the build up, and intensity.

my boxing career

I have been involved in amateur boxing for about two years. I'm hoping to get enough sparring in to fight on June 19, at Canterbury Park. Sparring is like scrimmage boxing which is very important in regards to getting into the ring. On Wed. I sparred 6 rounds with some pretty good boxers. I sparred with a former amateur national champion, and a regional champion. An amateur fight is 3 rounds which is why sparring 6 rounds is beneficial to me. I'm a little bit nervous about fighting at Canterbury park. The fights are held between races so there is a good crowd, but at the same time that can be very exciting.
